To London for Soap and Glory

IMG_2284

I haven’t been writing in a while. Why? Because I have been planning and working on getting ready to go to Europe, where I have been for the entire month of May. Holy Moly it was amazing! We went to Great Britain, Spain, and Portugal, and I seriously wish that I could live there. Seriously. I am thinking about doing a packing blog post that will be coming up pretty soon, so that will be pretty awesome (I hope).

While in London, we of course went to Boots (if you don’t know what Boots is, it is a fantastic pharmacy/drugstore in the U.K.), that I have been dying to go to for Soap and Glory products. Why? Because they are amazing. So, of course, they fortunately had their very famous 2 for 3 sale and I picked up 3 amazing products that I am so excited to try. And here they are:

IMG_3949

1. Pulp-Friction Foamy Fruity Body Scrub. This smells absolutely glorious and I cannot wait to use it. I love to make my skin feel super exfoliated and smooth. I have slightly bumpy and kind of dry skin, so I find it super helpful to scrub off that layer of dead skin cells. And as an added bonus the Soap and Glory scrubs are extremely moisturizing also, which is fantastic and not super common with all scrubs. I don’t use body scrubs every day, but at least once a week I will, especially when I am having a nice shower at the end of the day or before I night out. Unfortunately, if I love this stuff I am unsure as to whether it is in Canada or not, but I haven’t seen it. So I will have to look.

2. Smooth Star Breakfast Scrub. This is even more amazing, if you can believe it. (And I just realized while writing this post that I just bought 3 body scrub products. Well, why not when they are the best. I don’t even care). Anyways, this particular scrub actually smells like maple cookies, and even smells moisturizing. I am so excited to start using this one as well because I have never even heard of this particular scrub. Yum. I almost want to eat this product because it smells so amazing. If you find it, open it up and smell, and you will know what I am talking about.

3. Lastly, I bought another Flake Away Scrub. I actually already have bought and used this scrub, which is how and why I completely fell in love with Soap and Glory products. This was the stuff that opened such a love that I can’t even tell you how much I am loving this line. It smells amazing, and all of the packing is different shades of pink and evokes the retro love that I have in life. I just feel like an adorable 50’s modern house wife when I see this stuff. It is awesome. Back to the love of this particular product, when I opened this product when I got home, I realized that they had actually moderately changed this formula. The colour of the product that I have at home is actually a bright yellow and kind of stains my tub a bit until I clean my bathroom with this wonderful colour. However, the new stuff smells the exact same and looks similarly scrubby, but is brownish in colour now. I am not upset. The yellow was fun, but I wouldn’t mind using a darker colour, just as long as the product stays the same. This is seriously the scrub that I don’t even feel like I have to moisturize after using it because it makes my skin feel like buttery soft and so smooth. I tell my husband to feel different parts of my body because they just feel so nice (and I don’t hear any complaints). I seriously love this stuff, and it is worth the $18 to $20 that they are at home.

I need to go and have a bath now that I am so excited to use this stuff. If you haven’t tried any Soap and Glory scrubs, I highly recommend them. I love them so much that I traveled all of the way to London just to get them. Now that is love.

Products That I Have Used Up

weheartit.com

weheartit.com

I can’t believe that it is the beginning of April already. Where has the time gone? Seriously. Good thing is that I have actually used up some of my products. Whoohoo! This rarely happens I think because when you use so many products, it makes it difficult to make it through them all, let alone one of them. Beauty problems.

image

1. L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB cream in Fair. I bought this BB cream a long time ago (obviously, as the “BB” part is rubbed off), and I usually use it when I am going to work to just give my skin a little bit of coverage. It goes on very interestingly, because it is white with little beads inside, but when you rub it on your skin it blends it. The consistency is a bit drying and powdery, but it does the job. I may buy it again, but I would try a few others before buying this one.

image

2. La Roche-Posay Rosaliac UV Riche. I love this product. It even has SPF. I use this pretty well everyday and I love using it. I talked about this product in My Morning Skincare Routine post. It is really hydrating on my skin and does help with a bit of the redness that I get on my cheeks and by my nose. I will be repurchasing this from the drugstore.

3. Papaya Body Butter from the Body Shop. I have just a little bit left in this tub, but it is practically gone. I use it almost every night and it really makes my skin super soft and moisturized. Most of all, I really love the smell of this. Unfortunately, I only bought this a few months ago and I am almost out! I talked about this product in my Body Shop Haul post. When the Body Shop has another sale I will probably buy another few of just this product.

I think in the next few months I am going to be trying a few new things and not buying much of the same products. Stay tuned.

The Body Shop

image

The Body Shop had 50% off a few weeks ago! I love when this happens and I have a need for getting some new products. I haven’t gotten Body Shop products in ages, and I have found that The Body Shop have been having so many good deals lately. So I went a little crazy and bought maybe a few more products that I probably ought to. Is 9 too many? I have tried most of them so far, so heres a review in order of likes.

image

1. Papaya Body Butter – I have been covering my whole body in this every night for the past few nights. It smells so fruity and is so moisturizing. When I wake up my skin feels so soft and buttery. Plus my pajamas smell lovely too.

2. Coconut Body Scrub – I have to say that I love body scrubs. If there is anything worth using in the shower, it is a scrub. Coconut just makes it smell like summer, the beach, and being a teenager. I used to wear Coconut Body Butter every date night as a teen and I love that smell.

3. Loofahs – I bought 3 of them. Is that too many? They were $1.50, and you can’t get much cheaper than that for even a drugstore loofah. These ones are infinitely better. They are thicker, and lather soap better, and I find that they do last a lot longer too. Plus, they are in this beautiful blue colour. I should have bought more. (Actually, they are called Refining Bath Lilies, haha).

4. Mango and Papaya Shower Gel – These smell absolutely amazing and I love the way that it makes my skin feel. I find that sometimes with shower gels they can leave your skin feeling slightly dry, especially in the winter. However, I don’t find that with The Body Shop shower gels. At all. They are great.

5. Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub – Out of everything fruity, I love the smell of pink grapefruit. As you can tell with some of the other moisturizers that I like, pink grapefruit will be the one that I am drawn to the most.

6. Satsuma Body Butter – I love this scent and I am so happy that I got this one in this a travel size so that I can take this around with me everywhere. So that I can really add to the plethora of hand creams to bring around in my purse and make it infinitely heavier. I love it.

I can’t wait to use all of these up and buy more. I should have bought more.

Getting Older

image

Why doesn’t anyone want to get older? I think that it is pretty sad actually. Growing older is totally a natural and normal part of life, but everyone feels like you can’t get older. Heaven forbid you every have wrinkles or grey hair, or look over the age of 25. Obviously, this phenomenon is especially prevalent for women. As a woman approaching the age of 30 (yikes!), I feel this number getting bigger and bigger. It is like I am slowly driving towards the sign that is ever so rapidly getting larger as the days go on.

I know that this really shouldn’t be that big of a deal, but the other day my coworker (who I don’t work with very often, thank goodness) thought that I was 31. Maybe not an insult to most people, but that is 5 years older than what I actually am, and I was horribly offended. I don’t think that I look that old, but I guess I do? I am aging, obviously. I mean, aren’t we all? So now I am really into anti-wrinkle creams and eye cream, especially. Better start early right?

Well, that just leaves the main questions: what do we do about it? I have a list of musts.

Shel Silverstein said it best

Shel Silverstein said it best

1. Embrace it.

Everyone gets older. No one can stay young forever. And the ones who try end of looking super creepy (note: Joan Rivers and Courtney Cox). You want to be able to accept your age, whatever it may be.

Remember when you couldn’t wait to older and get bigger and be a grown up? Remind your kids, or anyone who is younger than you, to never wish this. Being grown up is great, but you want to be able to enjoy every age. Age comes with so many more responsibilities that are not very fun and last for the rest of your life. Enjoy the freedom.

2. Start doing preventative care now.

That means wearing sunscreen. Big time. Don’t spend hours in the sun. Having a tan is not all that it is cracked up to be. Seriously. Those people who were sun worshippers at a young age, end up looking at least 5 to 10 years older than what they actually are. Find a great sunscreen for your face and body and slather that stuff on. Always. I don’t ever not wear sunscreen on my face and chest during the day.

3. Eye cream.

Just do it. If anything can help making you look younger, it is those lines around your eyes. You can wear it at night and/or during the day. Paying special attention to your eyes really helps you stay looking younger. I have been trying to find the best one that I can, but I haven’t really found the right one I feel.

I have used the Neutrogena Eye Cream, which did virtually nothing. I used it for 6 months and noticed no difference whatsoever. It claims to have results in 1 week. I used it for like 6 months and noticed nothing. Might work for other people I guess.

I have been using the ROC Eye Cream for sensitive eyes for about 5 months, and I find that it does make a small difference, but not super noticeable. Maybe I should have gotten the full retinol eye cream, and not the milder one, but my skin is sensitive to products that produce a burning effect like this one does. I don’t think that I would have been able to handle the “full strength” product. I bought this product when I went to Ulta in Portland, Oregon. You can read that post here.

Now I am trying the Kiehls Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream, and so far (after only about 10 days) I have noticed a small difference already. I just have the sample right now, but I am asking for this for my birthday in March. I am really liking it.

4. Don’t focus on getting older.

I find that a lot of people (myself included) tend to focus on an age so much that it feels like it becomes a bigger even than it is. I found when I turned 26 that I all of a sudden got older. The age 25 felt so much closer to 20, and 26 feels so much closer to 30. It is only a year, but feels like a leap. Does that make sense?

Honestly, what I am telling you, and what I am telling myself, is that really, you shouldn’t focus so much on something that you can’t change. It will happen whether you like it or not. So this year I am focusing on eating better, taking better care of my skin, not going in the sun (or at least wearing a ton of sunscreen), and embracing myself as a person. These things are so much more important than a number.

This list is all personal, I am not an expert. I just talk about my life.

More Soap and Glory?

I have gotten a lot of new products to talk about because I will probably be spending a lot of time inside. Why you ask? Because it is so freakin cold outside that it is crazy! Because I live in Western Canada, our winters are usually not that extreme. We might get a little snow, we might get a bit of colder weather, but nothing that is really all that crazy. Not this year. It is 0 degrees Celsius (or 32 F), and with the wind chill, it feels like -20 C (which is -4 F). So, it is bloody cold for here and it kind of isn’t very fun. Plus, my hands are so unbelievably dry and red and cracking. It is horrible. Onto new things!

Why don’t I discuss some moisturizing products? Sure! So, I got a Soap and Glory gift box for Christmas that I really wanted from Shoppers Drug Mart. (If you haven’t heard me going on about all things Soap and Glory, you have been missing out). I know that Sephora is now selling Soap and Glory which is great! Trust me, this stuff is totally worth buying. I love it. Anyways, I thought that I would do a post about all of the lovely pieces that I got in the cute little gift box (which I can’t find and therefore can’t take a picture of to show you).

image

1. The Righteous Butter!

I have especially been using this in the past few weeks from how cold it is. It comes in this cute little tub that is super easy to carry around. Normally I use my beloved Hand Food that also came in the container, but actually I used it up already. And it is only February. Crazy. It was the smaller version of the Hand Food and obviously did not last very long.

Anyways, this stuff feels so nice and smells so wonderful (like all Soap and Glory products do). I find this one a little more greasy on the hands, but it really makes my hands nice and buttery and soft, so I don’t mind a little grease.

2. Clean On Me!

This is the body wash that comes in the pack and it smells so wonderful. We took it away with us when we went to Portland, Oregon, at the beginning of the year. I love this product because it is super moisturizing for a body wash and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry. Plus, my husband uses it and then he smells good. Can’t complain about that.

This is the first body wash that I have used from Soap and Glory, and I am obviously not disappointed. I really want to try the Sugar Scrub body wash that I know is sold at Shoppers, but I think that I need to get through all of the ones that I currently have before I buy something new.

3. Scrub of Your Life!

Don’t these products have the funniest names? The one makeup product that I haven’t really tried are the Sexy Motherpucker lip glosses, and I think that that is the best name ever! This one is the body scrub to use in the shower to make your body lovely and soft. I honestly love scrubs. Whether for your face or body. This is probably because I bumpy skin and I feel like scrubs really try to smooth my skin (the best they can). I don’t have a lot of pimples, but my face isn’t entirely smooth so I do like something that helps smooth things out. How many times did I use the word smooth in this paragraph?

4. Then there was a loofah that came with it too! Gotta love an adorably loofah, because they can get gross pretty fast. I find that if I don’t have a new one waiting, I will rarely buy a new one. I don’t know why.

Be prepared for more posts! I have a bunch of new things to talk about this month. Also, if you want to follow me on Instagram, I am also doing the fmsphotography photo a day posts and I am really liking doing it. My Instagram is #lollie12.

New Products in January

I have been working this whole weekend, and I should be doing laundry right now, but I got inspired to write a blog post and went with it. Currently, I am watching Zoella on Youtube. I love her. Just is so adorable and I love

In the beginning of January there are always new products that come out and I love that. I like trying new products, because you never know what you are going to like. Also, do you ever feel like when you buy a product, and you keep using it just because you don’t have anything better? For instance, I have been using the Maybelline BB Cream, and to be honest, I don’t really like it a whole lot. It makes my skin look “ok”, and I find it makes me look really pale. It is the BB cream that is supposed to match your skin. Maybe I really am that pale and don’t want to admit it? Maybe.

image

1. Anyways, I bought something new that should kind of work like a BB cream, but is actually a foundation. (So, I completely thought that this was a BB cream, but when I started looking more at the package, I realized that it is a foundation. That makes sense. I will explain). I bought the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in the the shade 100 Ivory, which turned out to be a perfect colour for me. I always like to match my skin to what I am when I am pale. I don’t tan very well, and I am better off to buy a foundation that matches my skin 70% of the year. I know some people buy more than one to match when they are more tanned. That isn’t me. Why waste your money? When do you know when you become less tanned? You could run into some trouble there.

I should probably talk about the product. I really like it. We can move on now (j/k). It feels very light, but still like you are wearing a creamy moisturizer. A little goes a long way with this product I have found. You can use too much, and you really don’t need to. It blends out really well and I have found that it doesn’t really smudge very easily, like when you wipe your face and you find foundation on your fingers (doesn’t really happen). I really like the packaging as well, and I appreciate that it comes in a tube (I hate bottles), so that you can control how much comes out. Mostly. It doesn’t make my face look greasy, or dry, and the coverage is great. It definitely covered up my red spots quite well. I just used a small amount of light concealer under my eyes and over top some more angry red spots.

image

2. I went out and got the much talked about Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. To be honest, I know that I just bought the Benefit Porefessional not that long ago, but this one came out and I really wanted to try it. I know that people compare the Baby Skin more to the Smashbox primer, and I agree that it doesn’t feel or look at all like the Benefit product. I even used this one on my husband in different areas of his face to try to see the difference between the two (he actually let me, which was pretty awesome). To be honest, the Benefit product did work a little better to blur your pores, but I like the consistency of the Baby Skin. It is a little more lightweight, and doesn’t really feel like you are wearing anything on your skin. It does a decent job of blurring your pores, but it isn’t perfect. I do like that it is less than half of the price of the Porefessional, so I would be more likely to use it on a daily basis and not worry about it running out too fast. Plus, the colour of the tube is wonderful. Actually, both are in a similar colour family. I just like the packaging of products really. What do you need to draw me in? Something nice to look at. There. I said it.

I didn’t really get a huge amount of products, but I did find ones that I had researched a lot and were very interested in trying. I will definitely continue to use them and they are perfect to travel with.

Speaking of travel (nice segway eh?), my husband and I have booked our next trip! We are going to Ireland, Spain, and Portugal in May! I have wanted to go to these places for such a long time. I really didn’t want to stop travelling until I had gone and now we are going! My husband booked the flights yesterday and we will be spending a few days in London, then off to Dublin, and home from Lisbon, Portugal. I will give you more details when the planning gets more intense.

January Ipsy Bag

Where have I been for the past month? Seriously, I don’t even know. I feel like I am still getting off of the craziness that has been Christmas and New Years. It is hard to get back into the swing of everyday life after that whole hoopla. Anyways, New Years Resolution #1: Become more organized. Always a big one for me. And to start that off (albeit a little late I will admit), I am going to begin uploading more blog posts in the new year. I have been meaning to write this one for a while, but life has really been hectic.

Enough about me, lets talk Ipsy bag products! I got a good one this month. Last month, didn’t even talk about it because it was so bad and not worth mentioning.

image

(Also, will you check out this adorable little pouch? I love these colours!)

image

1. By far my favourite product from this bag, the Sexy Hair Leave in Conditioner. I tried this stuff the other day, and really I had never actually used a leave in conditioner, but I certainly will now. This product smelt really good, and made my hair so soft. It completely detangled my hair and made my hair much less frizzy. I don’t wash my hair that often, so this works very well with my life. I will totally be buying this product as soon as this sample is done. (Because then I can keep the bottle and take it with me when I go on trips). A full sized bottle of this cost $17.95 at Ulta. Keeping this in mind for sure.

image

2. Next, the Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow in the colour Penny, which is a really nice copper colour. It is apparently a waterproof product, but I don’t really knowhow waterproof it actually is. This staying power, however, is great. This is a very tiny product, but I kind of like that. Also, you are supposed to sharpen it with a sharpener, which might be kind of interesting when the time comes. I used this as an eyeliner combined with a brown eyeliner and it looked really pretty. It applied very smoothly, like its name. I really like using this. The colour also compliments my red hair.

image

3. The A! Absolute! Make-up Cleansing Tissues were also a great product. They smell really sweet, like juice, and are made with pomegranate extract. They took my make-up off really well, and made my skin feel really cleansed. However, they did make my skin feel a little sticky so I still felt like I had to wash my face after using them, but they were not harsh on my skin at all. I don’t know whether I would really buy them. I have heard really good things about the Simple brand wipes that I would probably buy first to try them.

Now for the products that I didn’t really care for:

image

4. The Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion with Argan and Rosewater smelt absolutely amazing! Like roses and peaches. I loved the smell of this out of everything! However, I didn’t feel as though this product was hydrating enough for my skin. It did make my skin feel very dry and tight after using it. But it is winter, and my skin is always so much more dry in the winter than in the summer. I will definitely try this product more in the summer I think. I don’t have oily enough skin for it for sure, but it is a nice product otherwise. In my October Ipsy Bag I also got a nice hand cream from the same line. It had a coconut smell, but I felt that both had a similar texture. Not quite moisturizing enough for my skin, but still nice products.

image

5. Lastly, the Mica Beauty Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm in the colour #5 Natural was probably my least favourite product of them all. I didn’t care for the colour at all, and it was really drying on my lips. I may try to use this over top of a lip balm, or maybe I should just give this other shot in a few days. Sometimes I find that if I don’t like a product right away, I give it a little while and then I try it again to see if I still like it.

Ipsy kind of out did themselves a little more this month. Hooray! I have also been buying a few new products, so I will upload the reviews in the coming days!
