More Soap and Glory?

I have gotten a lot of new products to talk about because I will probably be spending a lot of time inside. Why you ask? Because it is so freakin cold outside that it is crazy! Because I live in Western Canada, our winters are usually not that extreme. We might get a little snow, we might get a bit of colder weather, but nothing that is really all that crazy. Not this year. It is 0 degrees Celsius (or 32 F), and with the wind chill, it feels like -20 C (which is -4 F). So, it is bloody cold for here and it kind of isn’t very fun. Plus, my hands are so unbelievably dry and red and cracking. It is horrible. Onto new things!

Why don’t I discuss some moisturizing products? Sure! So, I got a Soap and Glory gift box for Christmas that I really wanted from Shoppers Drug Mart. (If you haven’t heard me going on about all things Soap and Glory, you have been missing out). I know that Sephora is now selling Soap and Glory which is great! Trust me, this stuff is totally worth buying. I love it. Anyways, I thought that I would do a post about all of the lovely pieces that I got in the cute little gift box (which I can’t find and therefore can’t take a picture of to show you).

1. The Righteous Butter!

I have especially been using this in the past few weeks from how cold it is. It comes in this cute little tub that is super easy to carry around. Normally I use my beloved Hand Food that also came in the container, but actually I used it up already. And it is only February. Crazy. It was the smaller version of the Hand Food and obviously did not last very long.

Anyways, this stuff feels so nice and smells so wonderful (like all Soap and Glory products do). I find this one a little more greasy on the hands, but it really makes my hands nice and buttery and soft, so I don’t mind a little grease.

2. Clean On Me!

This is the body wash that comes in the pack and it smells so wonderful. We took it away with us when we went to Portland, Oregon, at the beginning of the year. I love this product because it is super moisturizing for a body wash and doesn’t leave my skin feeling dry. Plus, my husband uses it and then he smells good. Can’t complain about that.

This is the first body wash that I have used from Soap and Glory, and I am obviously not disappointed. I really want to try the Sugar Scrub body wash that I know is sold at Shoppers, but I think that I need to get through all of the ones that I currently have before I buy something new.

3. Scrub of Your Life!

Don’t these products have the funniest names? The one makeup product that I haven’t really tried are the Sexy Motherpucker lip glosses, and I think that that is the best name ever! This one is the body scrub to use in the shower to make your body lovely and soft. I honestly love scrubs. Whether for your face or body. This is probably because I bumpy skin and I feel like scrubs really try to smooth my skin (the best they can). I don’t have a lot of pimples, but my face isn’t entirely smooth so I do like something that helps smooth things out. How many times did I use the word smooth in this paragraph?

4. Then there was a loofah that came with it too! Gotta love an adorably loofah, because they can get gross pretty fast. I find that if I don’t have a new one waiting, I will rarely buy a new one. I don’t know why.

Be prepared for more posts! I have a bunch of new things to talk about this month. Also, if you want to follow me on Instagram, I am also doing the fmsphotography photo a day posts and I am really liking doing it. My Instagram is #lollie12.

Late New Years Resolutions?

image

So, this is kind of embarrassing, but I really feel the need to talk about New Years resolutions. I am only saying this because it is about this time that people tend to lose momentum around the 1 month mark after New Years. I always feel like you get on a role, but totally lose focus. The new year starts, and you just start to get busy again.
However, I always have time to make New Years resolutions. Well, thats not true. I don’t call them resolutions ever, because I don’t like to think that I am going to be resolving anything. I like to call them goals. Such as, it is my goal to be…, and so on. I think that there are so many ways to describe what you want to do in the new year, but trying to be a better person is actually really difficult. Life gets in the way of really good intentions. If I have any advice about life is just that: you can only do what you can do. Seriously. There is so much pressure just to constantly be better, that it gets exhausting and doesn’t make you feel very good about yourself if you don’t meet your expectations. I say, do away with that crap. What is the point? Sure there are things that I really want to do better, and so I will set goals for myself. But I am also a realistic person. I am not going to make myself feel terrible for not being able to do these all of the time. I am going to try my hardest, and keep trying even if I let myself down a bit. That is really the best that I can do.

That being said, here are my 2014 goals:

1. Be More Organized

image

I would really like to say that I am really organized, but I am not. I try really hard to be, but it always seems to fall back into that cycle of being messy again. (Didn’t post for over a month? Poor organization). It is good for a few weeks, and then gets messy again. My paperwork is probably the worst of them all. I really want all my taxes and papers to be a hell of a lot more organized. Also, my closet could do an overhaul, and my cupboards.

2. Drink More Water

This isn't water? But it could be the amount of water that I should drink with dinner maybe.

This isn’t water? But it could be the amount of water that I should drink with dinner maybe.

I never seem to do this enough. I am afraid of going to the bathroom a lot. Plain and simply. Plus, if I drink too much I feel super bloated and gross.

3. Take More Pictures

image

I have always loved photography, but I find that in my day to day I don’t really take that many pictures. In February I have decided that I am going to do those month challenges. We will see how it goes.

4. Be More Creative

I am genuinely a very creative person, but I really don’t make the time to do many crafty things. I vow to change that this year.

5. Read More Books

image

Because I love it.

Have you noticed that all of my resolutions have the word “more” in the title? So I do these things, but not enough of them. Is this weird? Obviously I just don’t do enough stuff. I think that you could always do more of what you should be doing. Blog more? That is another one. But I really think that that is a given. I am doing better right? Don’t answer that.

New Products in January

I have been working this whole weekend, and I should be doing laundry right now, but I got inspired to write a blog post and went with it. Currently, I am watching Zoella on Youtube. I love her. Just is so adorable and I love

In the beginning of January there are always new products that come out and I love that. I like trying new products, because you never know what you are going to like. Also, do you ever feel like when you buy a product, and you keep using it just because you don’t have anything better? For instance, I have been using the Maybelline BB Cream, and to be honest, I don’t really like it a whole lot. It makes my skin look “ok”, and I find it makes me look really pale. It is the BB cream that is supposed to match your skin. Maybe I really am that pale and don’t want to admit it? Maybe.

image

1. Anyways, I bought something new that should kind of work like a BB cream, but is actually a foundation. (So, I completely thought that this was a BB cream, but when I started looking more at the package, I realized that it is a foundation. That makes sense. I will explain). I bought the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation in the the shade 100 Ivory, which turned out to be a perfect colour for me. I always like to match my skin to what I am when I am pale. I don’t tan very well, and I am better off to buy a foundation that matches my skin 70% of the year. I know some people buy more than one to match when they are more tanned. That isn’t me. Why waste your money? When do you know when you become less tanned? You could run into some trouble there.

I should probably talk about the product. I really like it. We can move on now (j/k). It feels very light, but still like you are wearing a creamy moisturizer. A little goes a long way with this product I have found. You can use too much, and you really don’t need to. It blends out really well and I have found that it doesn’t really smudge very easily, like when you wipe your face and you find foundation on your fingers (doesn’t really happen). I really like the packaging as well, and I appreciate that it comes in a tube (I hate bottles), so that you can control how much comes out. Mostly. It doesn’t make my face look greasy, or dry, and the coverage is great. It definitely covered up my red spots quite well. I just used a small amount of light concealer under my eyes and over top some more angry red spots.

image

2. I went out and got the much talked about Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. To be honest, I know that I just bought the Benefit Porefessional not that long ago, but this one came out and I really wanted to try it. I know that people compare the Baby Skin more to the Smashbox primer, and I agree that it doesn’t feel or look at all like the Benefit product. I even used this one on my husband in different areas of his face to try to see the difference between the two (he actually let me, which was pretty awesome). To be honest, the Benefit product did work a little better to blur your pores, but I like the consistency of the Baby Skin. It is a little more lightweight, and doesn’t really feel like you are wearing anything on your skin. It does a decent job of blurring your pores, but it isn’t perfect. I do like that it is less than half of the price of the Porefessional, so I would be more likely to use it on a daily basis and not worry about it running out too fast. Plus, the colour of the tube is wonderful. Actually, both are in a similar colour family. I just like the packaging of products really. What do you need to draw me in? Something nice to look at. There. I said it.

I didn’t really get a huge amount of products, but I did find ones that I had researched a lot and were very interested in trying. I will definitely continue to use them and they are perfect to travel with.

Speaking of travel (nice segway eh?), my husband and I have booked our next trip! We are going to Ireland, Spain, and Portugal in May! I have wanted to go to these places for such a long time. I really didn’t want to stop travelling until I had gone and now we are going! My husband booked the flights yesterday and we will be spending a few days in London, then off to Dublin, and home from Lisbon, Portugal. I will give you more details when the planning gets more intense.

January Ipsy Bag

Where have I been for the past month? Seriously, I don’t even know. I feel like I am still getting off of the craziness that has been Christmas and New Years. It is hard to get back into the swing of everyday life after that whole hoopla. Anyways, New Years Resolution #1: Become more organized. Always a big one for me. And to start that off (albeit a little late I will admit), I am going to begin uploading more blog posts in the new year. I have been meaning to write this one for a while, but life has really been hectic.

Enough about me, lets talk Ipsy bag products! I got a good one this month. Last month, didn’t even talk about it because it was so bad and not worth mentioning.

image

(Also, will you check out this adorable little pouch? I love these colours!)

image

1. By far my favourite product from this bag, the Sexy Hair Leave in Conditioner. I tried this stuff the other day, and really I had never actually used a leave in conditioner, but I certainly will now. This product smelt really good, and made my hair so soft. It completely detangled my hair and made my hair much less frizzy. I don’t wash my hair that often, so this works very well with my life. I will totally be buying this product as soon as this sample is done. (Because then I can keep the bottle and take it with me when I go on trips). A full sized bottle of this cost $17.95 at Ulta. Keeping this in mind for sure.

image

2. Next, the Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow in the colour Penny, which is a really nice copper colour. It is apparently a waterproof product, but I don’t really knowhow waterproof it actually is. This staying power, however, is great. This is a very tiny product, but I kind of like that. Also, you are supposed to sharpen it with a sharpener, which might be kind of interesting when the time comes. I used this as an eyeliner combined with a brown eyeliner and it looked really pretty. It applied very smoothly, like its name. I really like using this. The colour also compliments my red hair.

image

3. The A! Absolute! Make-up Cleansing Tissues were also a great product. They smell really sweet, like juice, and are made with pomegranate extract. They took my make-up off really well, and made my skin feel really cleansed. However, they did make my skin feel a little sticky so I still felt like I had to wash my face after using them, but they were not harsh on my skin at all. I don’t know whether I would really buy them. I have heard really good things about the Simple brand wipes that I would probably buy first to try them.

Now for the products that I didn’t really care for:

image

4. The Nourish Organic Lightweight Moisturizing Face Lotion with Argan and Rosewater smelt absolutely amazing! Like roses and peaches. I loved the smell of this out of everything! However, I didn’t feel as though this product was hydrating enough for my skin. It did make my skin feel very dry and tight after using it. But it is winter, and my skin is always so much more dry in the winter than in the summer. I will definitely try this product more in the summer I think. I don’t have oily enough skin for it for sure, but it is a nice product otherwise. In my October Ipsy Bag I also got a nice hand cream from the same line. It had a coconut smell, but I felt that both had a similar texture. Not quite moisturizing enough for my skin, but still nice products.

image

5. Lastly, the Mica Beauty Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm in the colour #5 Natural was probably my least favourite product of them all. I didn’t care for the colour at all, and it was really drying on my lips. I may try to use this over top of a lip balm, or maybe I should just give this other shot in a few days. Sometimes I find that if I don’t like a product right away, I give it a little while and then I try it again to see if I still like it.

Ipsy kind of out did themselves a little more this month. Hooray! I have also been buying a few new products, so I will upload the reviews in the coming days!

November Favourites

What I really should be doing right now is cleaning my house to prepare for people to come over for dinner, but instead I have been watching Youtube videos and drinking coffee (at 5pm). Plus, I was thinking about my blog and how much I have (not) been writing. Really, I have been on a crazy work schedule and have had literally no time to do anything but exercise and work. I was living off of Cliff bars and mandarin oranges for about 2 weeks straight. Talk about healthy…yikes.

This of course got me thinking about my favourite things this month (or I have just been watching too many videos telling me that it is the end of the month where everyone talks about their monthly favourites). Do I follow this regime? Not really. But I will try.

1. Clif bars

image

Sounds crazy since I have been eating a ton of them, but really they have been getting me through a lot these past few days so I have to appreciate them for what they are. If you don’t know what they are, they are basically just protein bars that actually taste like food. You can get the crunchy bars (which are like Nature Valley bars) or the chewy bars that I personally enjoy more. My favourite has to be the Chocolate Almond Fudge bar that comes in a pack of 18 from Costco. Generally these bars range from about $1 (on sale) to $2 and up (pretty expensive, I know). In the pack from Costco though they are about $0.83, so I have two boxes that I am working my way through.
I generally keep these bars in my purse and work bag for the times when I am really hungry, but don’t have any food (which happens more often than I would like to admit). I really recommend trying these bars for sure. They are very tasty, and satisfy hunger effectively. My husband and I also took these when we were in Hawai’i on our 7 hour hike on the Napali trail. Since it was so hot and you didn’t want to carry a lot, these really came in handy.

2. Sleep

image

Weird? I think not. To be honest, you know there are people who love to sleep? They could just stay in bed all day and sleep for countless hours. I am not one of these people. Personally, I don’t like sleep very much and I only sleep because I have to. But sometimes I feel like I really under-appreciate sleep. Because I work strictly nights only, I can range from sleeping about 4 hours to 7 hours in between nights. That is like sleeping from midnight to 4am. What have you really gained there? Not much.
I have to say that I can definitely function very well for a few days on very little sleep, but when you work 5 shifts in a row, that completes about 60 hours, on 4 hours a “night”, you aren’t really able to sustain that. So I like to sleep when I can, especially on weekends. Appreciate the little things.

3. Coffee

image

Have I talked about my love for coffee? Likely not enough, even if I have written an entire post about coffee on this little blog. Hell, this has been running through my bloodstream all month. My husband and I actually have a Nespresso maker (the one that lots of celebrities endorse). It is really popular in Europe, and it makes amazing coffee. You buy capsules, put it in the machine, and out comes a perfect espresso. It is similar to a Keurig, or Tassimo, but better (because what comes out is stronger and tastier, in my personal opinion). Since it is a faster option to having coffee, with that lovely little shot of joy, I definitely haven’t been skimping on having them this month with all of that sleep that I haven’t been getting.

4. Soap and Glory Handfood

image

I wrote about this hand moisturizer in My Favourite Moisturizers post, and I do really love this stuff. I have been using it so much that I basically have barely any left. I am scraping the bottom of it for sure. I have to really squeeze the bottle to get a little bit out. Hopefully I get more for Christmas (or else I will have to buy more). My hands have been suffering a lot this month for sure from washing my hands continuously. Hopefully work won’t be so bad this month like it was in November. So I definitely have been enjoying this stuff. Definitely makes a difference and the scent is heavenly. Certainly not too strong, but pleasantly gentle. God I love this stuff.

5. Wunderlist App

image

If you haven’t heard of this app, you don’t know what you are missing. This one has been awesome and totally essential to my Christmas shopping. (Yes, I have been Christmas shopping for a few weeks already and I only have a few left to buy). I usually end up forgetting my list somewhere, so having it on my phone has been really helpful (I always have it on me). So, my husband actually got me into using this and it has been really great. It links up from my iPad to my iPhone very easily, and I can add as many categories as I want. If you haven’t checked this one out, go for it. Plus, it is free!

So, this list was definitely the more simple and practical of lists, but I haven’t had too much time to get any new products and really try them out. That will be saved for December. Should I do a gift giving guide for this month?

November Ipsy Bag

image

Seems like not that long ago that I got my very first October Ipsy bag, and now I have my November one! I felt very excited to see what was in there! I just received it the other day, and I have tried most of the products so that I can give good impression and review. Sometimes I don’t really know what they are thinking when they send you some of these products. I mean, you basically fill out a survey, and then you get a mishmash of different products that they are sponsering, or being sponsered buy, and they send you products that they think that you would like. With this bag I just feel like they threw stuff in there without much thought, and a lot of these are products that I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself.

That being said, I am definitely into trying all of these products that will maybe break me out of my comfort zone. There is nothing wrong with trying something new right? I am not totally beauty experienced, so there is always something good that will come out of this bag. Like how cute it is! Adorable! Like a gold snake skin, with a touch of pink: adorable.

image

Let’s start off with the first item in the bag shall we? I received a Pixi Subtly Suntouched Bronzer. I have actually never used a bronzer before, and I have always been meaning to try one. I have a good idea of how to really put on a bronzer, but just in case I read a blog post* of how to contour round faces, because, yeah, I have that. Also, I was always a little weary that it would make me look too orange. I looked it up online, and it actually retails for $18, but when you buy this in store it comes with a kabuki brush. I really wish that this one would have come with that too, since I don’t have a proper brush to use it with. I only really have a small blush brush that I can use, which seemed to work fine. I think that I will have to get a little more practice with it, but the colour doesn’t seem to be too dark, and it doesn’t apply very heavily. You really have to get a lot of the brush in order for it to really show up. I am really happy that I got this product because it will definitely force me to try it and work with it a little more.

image

The next product that I got was a Be a Bombshell Cosmetics Lip Crayon in the colour Shameless. This is a nice burgundy colour that actually really suits my complexion, but I am not a fan of the glitter in the product. I typically only use lip products that are glossy or matte, so I don’t care for the glitter feature, but it isn’t too noticeable. Also, I am very particular with taste, and this product really doesn’t taste very good to me. It just tastes like lipstick, which I don’t care for. However, I do really like the crayon aspect of this product because it makes it very easy to apply so that I don’t get it all around my lips, and I use it more like a lip liner that I fill in. Since it is coming into the Christmas season, I think that I will be wearing this a lot because it is a nice dark berry colour that works very well for this time of year.

image

What I actually used on top of the lip crayon was the em Cosmetics Pillow Plush Cushiony Lip Balm in the colour Lollipop. I like the colour of this product a lot and it feels really nice on the lips. I find it very moisturizing and soft. The only thing that I don’t like about it is the taste! I told you, I am hung up on taste for sure. The really important reason why I don’t like wearing lipstick is because I just don’t like the taste of it. It is gross. If it tastes nice, then I will probably wear it a lot, but I have a hard time getting passed the taste of things on my mouth. If you want to try something that is very tasty, I am a fan of the really like Fresh lip products.

image

Next, I got the Cailyn Mineral Eyeshadow in Champagne. When I first looked at this product I had no idea what this was. The packaging makes it look like a nail polish, but cheaper because it is plastic. It is a very powdery and soft eyeshadow, but I actually didn’t find that I had any fall out when I wore it. I wore it under another eyeshadow, and although I am not a big fan of glittery products, I still actually really like the colouring of this product. However, I did find that trying to get more of product to apply was difficult. There is a tube in the product that the spongey applicator goes into, and when you first pull it out it is covered in the product, but when you stick it back in the bottle to get more product, it comes out with barely any. Therefore, it looks neat, but isn’t really user friendly.

image

Then, I got Starlooks Gem Eyeliner in Topaz, which turned out to be a glittery grey colour (which isn’t topaz at all). It is a nice colour, although kind of more glittery than I would like. I found that it doesn’t really have very good staying power, and easily rubbed it off when I tried to blend it. I don’t know if I am going to wear it per se, but maybe I will find something good to do with it. (Christmas is coming right?) It is definitely very festive and fun, but not all my taste.

image

Lastly, I got another nail polish (hooray!) by a company called Nailtini, in the colour Caviar Cocktail. This is a shiny, gunmetal grey colour that is easy to apply and looks decent. I noticed on the website that this brand promotes using their products with other colours to create the perfect blend of nailpolishes, which I think is a great idea since so many people are doing nail art these days. I think that this colour would work really well with another similarly shiny nail polish. It was a very easy product to apply and dried really easily. Plus, I think that the colour is a lot of fun and I have already worn it on my toes!

So this month’s bag was a bit of a miss, and definitely wasn’t as good as last month’s, but I am still excited to get some use out of the products that I got. I am hoping that next months is a little bit better. Considering how much products that you get to try, the ipsy bag* is an awesome deal, even if there are only a few items that you might really like. I totally recommend this subscription to anyone that likes to try new things and get a little surprise at the end of the day.

My Nighttime Skincare Routine

My nighttime routine has really just come into fruition within the past 6 months or so where I do this every night (or morning, depending on when I am going to sleep). Because I work primarily night shifts, I really don’t want that to show as age on my face, as I am getting older (eek!). I have now bought much more expensive creams and such to really take care of my skin so that I can look more youthful for longer. Easy enough right? Not too complicated. Although, for one piece of advice, I really wish that I had started these habits earlier, and not when I started to notice lines on my face. Oh well, c’est la vie!

image

If my skin feels like it is very clogged, or just that it needs a really good intense clean, then I use my Norwex Antibacterial Body Cloths for my face. It removes my makeup really well, and also works like a scrub for my face. I really like using these, but I don’t use them everyday because I do find that they can be a little harsh for my skin. These cloths are a very quick way to both scrub and remove makeup from your face. Dual purpose those bad boys are. I am certainly a fast and easy kind of girl, *wink*.

First off, if I have worn makeup during the day (especially if I have used waterproof mascara), then I use the La Roche Posay Gentle Makeup Remover. This has a creamy texture and I find that it works very well at removing most of my makeup. I like to use this product with a cotton pad around my eyes especially. Even when I use this, I still feel like I always find that there is a little bit of mascara that always finds its way to be completely unremovable no matter how much I try to get it off. I really find this with waterproof products, which I only wear when I am going to have a long day at work (or if I am going to sweat a lot). I still want to look respectable and not have a bunch of mascara underneath my eyes. (Not like I usually look which is a bit rough around the edges).

Then, as mentioned in , I use my Spectro Jel cleanser. Not too special, but I love the way that this works; so morning and night, I am devoted. This product is just very gentle, and I tend not to get a lot of breakouts when I use this so…speaks for itself really.

image

I then like to apply my Korres 24 hour Brightening Nighttime Cream, which I mentioned in blog post. I really like this product for sure. However, since I bought it in September I am more than half way through it which is pretty disappointing. I think that I am going to have to find another cream that I can alternate it with. I just really like using this product because I really find that it brightens my skin and makes me look less tired. Plus, it doesn’t break me out like a lot of other creams tend to do.

Lastly, and definitely not least, I use my ROC eye cream for sensitive eyes. I don’t really know how much this works. I also bought it at Ulta when we were in Portland, but I wasn’t sure if it really worked, so I didn’t write a review on it. I have used it for basically about 2 months since I bought, almost every night, and I am still not sure how much it works. It definitely burns the first few times that you use it, and I find if I have really rubbed my eyes right before I put it on than it still burns, but, you know, the hazards of beauty. I am for sure going to continue using it, but we will see if I buy it again. I did have the Neutrogena * eye cream that I used for about 3 months and I just stopped using it because I think that it did absolutely nothing for me. I will give the ROC cream another month. I did read really good reviews on it, so it should work….what do you think? Is there another brand that I should try?

And that is my ever so complicated nighttime routine. Not too much, just experimenting for now. I am definitely open to more options and opinions about skincare for sure. Thanks for reading!
